I want to learn to make a journal. I love the square ones. After seeing all the beautiful ones you've made I feel let down when I use my old spiral one from journal class. Hope I'll be able to take the class if you do one.Ginny B.
Ginny - Cathy Cohen and I are going to do some classes on journal making. I'll keep you posted.
Can't wait for your next classes. Having trouble finding inspiration so followed your advice and went to the cupboard. Painted a can of El Paso Refined Beans. Very colorful, very rough attempt, but an attempt non the less.Mary Lou Bachman
Mary Lou - can and jar labels are fun to do. They are often colorful, and because we would never be able to really duplicate them, we have "permission" to SIMPLIFY.
Thanks Catherine. Simplify is my style! Mary Lou
Do you mind sharing what type and weight watercolor paper you put in your journals? I want to make one but don't know best paper to use.
Anonymous,I use Strathmore Aquarius II. It is an 80 lb paper that feels much heavier and doesn't buckle. It is soft enough to fold and stitch. Some papers, such as Arches hot press, will break at the fold.It doesn't take pencil as well as some others, but it's not a perfect world :) I often bind in a couple of signatures of Strathmore drawing paper.
Thank you so much! Your sketches look lovely and I'm crazy about your journals...they really look so inviting! Wish you lived near Tampa so we could make some together. Thanks again for the info - I'm going to try the Aquarius.
