A Very Snowy Saturday
We had about ten inches of snow over-night and it is still snowing off and on and blowing. There are 26,000 households in our area without power. We are not one of them, but the power lines are very heavy with snow here in our neighborhood - makes me a little nervous. It was predicted that a snowstorm would hit us about 5 p.m. yesterday, and a little after 4:30 it began to snow. We haven't had much snow all winter, so everyone was pretty surprised that it actually happened.
What is it about a winter storm that allows you to give yourself permission to do nothing? Even if you had only indoor things planned - no outside activities - you (or is it just ME) suddenly decide you don't have to do them. It's okay to sit and watch it snow, read, watch a movie, eat eat eat - do anything other than what had seemed important to get done today.
Critter report. It was a mouse. A very small mouse.

Sure is beautiful. I'll bet the snowmobilers are a happy lot.
First of all, I love your Azalea! I heard your were going to get a ton of heavy wet snow--and you did :-) We had HEAVY wind gusts warnings Fri nite from 9 pm to 5 am., and it WAS gusty with snow flurries. It looks beautiful up there. Made a pot of Lentil/Barley Soup from a recipe I've been saving for just this kind of a day...it was delish! Maybe some Gorgonzola would've been good in it? Marj.
It is beautiful - and very quiet after the plows have cleaned up and gone "home". We don't hear any snowmobiles in the city, but I agree, they must be a happy lot. It had not been a great year for them so far.
Lentil barley soup sounds great. Well - of course Gorgonzola would be good in anything : ) Give it a try.
Oh, What a beautiful site. No snow for us on L.I. just damp, and dreary.
Thank you for sharing your winter wonderland.
Joan - I wish we could send you a little. It is almost two feet deep out our back door.
Absolutely beautiful! AND I'm glad I can look at it and not have it at my house! We (in the South) are not prepared for snow of this magnitude! Thank you for sharin it! Yes! By all means, enjoy it, sit by the fire or the window and enjoy some hot chocolate (oh how I wish I had sent you some homemade marshmallows!). On Fri nite, we had a tornado 8 miles away in the small town nearest to us. Only businesses damaged and no one hurt. For that we are VERY thankful. This has surely been a different winter!
Oh yes if it snows you aren't supposed to do anything but watch, drink hot chocolate and enjoy.(hopefully) so glad it was a tiny critter :). love,Diana
Helen - so glad no one was hurt in your near-by tornado! It was quite sunny here today - beautiful - but many people are still without power.
Diane - The critter was tiny, but now we realize it was not alone. Are they ever?
Just sayin'....where was Rudy when this little rodent was doin' his thing???? Meow??? That IS your Watchcat's name isn't it??? :-)
Watchcat Rudy was certainly not doing his job. The mouse (mice) took food right out of his bowl! I can't decide if these are very very brave mice, stupid mice, or they've been watching and have Rudy's number.
